Best of 2011
30th December 2011
Like every year here's a little look back on the months gone by. Like for most photographers it wasn't an easy year. Recession hit and it hit hard. But as the saying goes when the going gets tough the tough get going...
2011 saw me mainly at coastal locations shooting for another book which will be out late 2012. It was a challenging project, dragging me out of my comfort zone and the 2011 weather didn't exactly make it easier. Talking about books... "The Irish Wildlife Year", a collaboration between Eric Dempsey, Billy Clarke and myself, has been out for a few months now. Makes a nice present!
Anyway here are some personal favorites from last year's sessions:
Starting with something unusual for me. Landscape shooter goes action sports. I don't know if this shot would stand up with any professional sport shooter's work but I like it.
Galley Head, County Cork. 300mm lens and wait for the right wave...
Probably not one of my most dramatic images, but it perfectly captures the mood of the place and day. Strangford Lough, summer, peace and tranquility.
After 3 years I finally managed to capture this boulder at Ballycastle Strand appropriately. Another one down.
Probably the highlight of the year for me, the location, not the shot. Fanad Lighthouse. If I wouldn't have had the flu I would have been able to enjoy it more though.
My best dolphin shot so far I think. The reflections and patterns on the water make the image.
Connemara. The legends about the light there are true, this was a truly magic moment.

My personal favorite of the year. One of Ireland's epic locations and a winter morning to match. That was a great day!
So that was 2011. Big plans and opportunities are ahead for 2012, let's see what becomes of them...
