Carsten's Captures - February: Of Trees and Bags

03rd March 2012
About two weeks ago I made the final images for my upcoming book on Ireland's coast and was looking forward to the next few months doing some photography just for the fun of it. No deadline, no brief and no editor breathing down my neck.
Of course these things never work out as planned and I just started shooting heritage trees for the Tree Council of Ireland. 100 trees all over Ireland in 3 months. How fast bliss can turn into stress! But I won't complain, any work is good work and to be quite honest I am looking very forward to this assignment... apart from the tight deadline that is. Trees and woodlands are fabulous but challenging subjects and I think I have a few exiting months ahead of me.

During this assignment I will also be testing a backpack for Gura Gear. It's not your usual style camera backpack and comes with a nice twist. Someone seems to have put a lot of thought into this piece and I can't wait taking it into the field. Watch this space for more!

Some people asked me over the past few weeks if I will be switching to Nikon. Although the D800 sounds like a landscape photographer's dream I will stick with Canon (if someone however would like to sponsor a Nikon outfit for me I might just be persuaded...). The just announced EOS 5D MK3 sounds rather perfect for what I do and is already on order and my beloved EOS 1Ds MK3 will have to go... anybody interested?

By the way: This weeks is National Tree Week!
