Rainbow No. I
18th June 2009

Carrick-a-rede. This is my 2nd favorite place on the Antrim coast and I had planned this image for a year. Midsummer, late evening, sunlight and a simple composition. The cliffs lead through the frame and the boulders provide foreground interest and balance the composition. All I needed to make the image complete was a suitable sky. And there was my problem. Passing showers and sunshine should have provided the perfect conditions but it was never right. Not enough clouds during the sunny periods, perfect clouds but no sunshine on the cliffs. After 2 hours and several showers later I decided to give up and rethink my idea when the rainbow begun to form.
This was the solution to my problem. Camera back on the tripod, filters on the lens. Compose, position grad filter, expose. Re-position grad filter, expose. And so on. I managed 8 exposures, only 1 was right. Happy day.
